Description
Canterbury Shaker Village Byway runs for 12 miles through an early American Shaker village located 20 miles from the state capital. Here, the 200-year history of the Shaker population is depicted amid 25 authentic Shaker buildings, nature trails, botanical gardens, mills, and ponds.

A National Historic Landmark, this village is located in the midst of old homesteads, stonewalls, open marshes, and the Hutchins Forest. In the fall, the original sugar maples planted by the Shakers years ago add a blaze of color to Meetinghouse Lane and Shaker Road. And, the quaint little town of Canterbury, though not part of The Village itself, paints a postcard image of New England at its best.
