Description
The Concord River is a great day trip for those wanting to try something different over the weekend. The river is located just thirty minutes from Boston in Lowell, Massachusetts. Granted the river is in a very urban environment and you will probably see all types of city debris, this river is close to home and has some awesome class III-IV rapids.
The rapids include Twisted Sisters, Three Beauties, and Middlesex Dam. The whitewater stretch is one and a half miles long and tours will take you on the rapids twice. A neat aspect for this river is that at the end of the trip you come up to an 1850’s lock chamber located in the center of Lowell. Also, some proceeds from the excursions will go towards helping the Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust which try to preserve natural greenery and open space within the city.
The minimum age requirement for the Concord River is 14 years old. Try to enjoy the new perspective on urban recreation and soak in the sun while you’re at it. This is definitely a trip you can laugh and boast about at your friend’s next dinner party or barbeque.
