Bretton Woods is a resort area in Carroll, New Hampshire that is encircled by the White Mountains and the Pemigewasset Wilderness. The area has two points of interest: Mount Washington Hotel, which opened in 1902, arousing the interest of tourism to the area; and Mount Washington Cog Railway, a train that climbs the mountain on a scenic trip to heaven. Bretton Woods, also known as Twin Mountains, explodes with year-round activity. The cool, clear waters of the Ammonoosuc River entice swimmers and anglers to its shores for summertime pleasures. Skiing is the most popular winter sport in the area.

Jackson's reputation as one of the most romantic and charming resorts in the country is as true today as it has been over the past 200 years. This White Mountain village has the same magnetic pull on tourism as Bretton Woods with a healthy share of the international market. Exquisite surroundings of mountains and covered bridges, gushing waterfalls and grand ol' inns give Jackson the heart of an artist. Yet, river rapids and snow-packed hills, gurgling streams and canopied forests give it the soul of an athlete.

Lake Winnipesaukee, largest lake in New Hampshire and beautiful beach resort, has 283 miles of shoreline and serves as a summer playground for young and old. This glittering mountain lake stretches for 28 miles across New Hampshire's countryside and is freckled with 274 miniature islands. Majestic mountains stand proudly over the lake with the white cap of Mount Washington peeking out in the distance.

Sitting at the west end of the Kancamagus Highway, Lincoln is a bedroom community for visitors of neighboring attractions. It's a small town with a population of only 1200, but it offers many attractive accommodations and fine dining. Lincoln's rugged terrain invites active play. In winter, there is alpine and cross-country skiing, showshoeing and snowmobiling. Insummer there are plenty of opportunities to bike, hike, fish or horseback ride.

Snow-capped mountains, sparkling lakes, thick forests, and tumbling waterfalls are all part of the ecology of the White Mountain Region. Stretching into the clouds, Mount Washington is the tallest peak in the Northeast. Many little hamlets nap in the mountainous cradle. Perhaps the toughest terrain of the Appalachian Trail carves its way through Crawford Notch to the top of Mount Washington and on to Pinkham Notch. Avid hikers follow its lead through rugged paths and awesome beauty.
